Here’s my last (sigh) tribute to Norman Rockwell’s art for Tumblr's contest #letsdrawsherlock!

This is a pretty sentimental version of Sherlock’s homecoming. And home is not only 221B Baker Street, but the place where his affections live. Home is where his friends are.

From left to right: Mike Stamford, Mrs Hudson, Anthea, Lestrade, Angelo, Mary Morstan, Anderson, Mycroft Holmes, Sally Donovan, Molly Hooper and DI Dimmock. And obviously, before them, John Watson and Sherlock Holmes.

Here chreetzmas.files.wordpress.com… you can see Christmas Homecoming, Rockwell’s wonderful painting that inspired me:

First of all, I have to tell you that I find this utterly beautiful.

I think your idea of using a Norman Rockwell painting as "inspiration" is a brilliant idea, partly due to the fact that I am a very big Rockwell fan, and partly because it is simply something I have not seen done before.

Your likenesses of all of the characters are very well done, I could tell who almost all of them were without reading your description. Your choice of clothes and expression for each character was very tactfully done, and I particularly like the fact that Mycroft is smiling, and I think the expression used for Lestrade is just as wonderful.

One thing I very much enjoy is the positions you put Sherlock and John in. Sherlock looks, even though I cannot see is face, that he is very surprised by John's sudden show of emotion, and John looks rather like he doesn't care what people think - and I like that very, very much. Their friendship is shown so beautifully here, I hardly know what to say.

As for the impact of this drawing, I will admit, the moment I saw it, tears rose in my eyes. You have done amazingly well, I am sad to hear this will be your last drawing based on a Norman Rockwell painting.

Hi Alessia. I was looking through the mutliple submissions in the Let's Draw Sherlock challenge and I must say this was the only one that touched me in unspeakable depth. The other entries were clever and amusing but most of them were amateurs. Yours, however, was on a different level. Since the season 2 finale left us viewers on a sad note, your picture conveys the perfect emotions that would be expressed if Sherlock had indeed come back into the arms of his friends and family.

I like the facial expressions of Molly, Mrs Hudson and Lestrade. Most importantly, I like the quiet emotions seen on Watson's face.

You did a very good job on this one. Even though it was based on another artwork, I find it very original and creative. Only a true fan could've done something like this.

Just one question: Is that Irene Adler behind Mrs Hudson?

On the technical side, I think the colors and lighting on this piece are well-balanced and stays true to the theme. I just think the part where Sherlock's violin case is cut off could be re-done but other than that it's a masterpiece.

I thank you for putting your heart and soul into this one. I just wish I could do something as beautiful as this.
