:bulletpurple: REBLOG HERE: [link] :bulletpurple:

I drew this artwork for the new #letsdrawsherlock contest on Tumblr. It was inspired by Some Nights, a famous song by American indie rock band Fun.

I must admit this is a pretty banal choice, but I love this song and I think it well suits to describe John’s feelings. Although all the lyrics are worthy of being drawn, I focused on these lines:

But I still wake up, I still see your ghost
Oh, Lord, I’m still not sure what I stand for, oh
What do I stand for? What do I stand for?
Most nights I don’t know anymore…

Wow. I wish I could give you ten stars for impact! I swear my heart rate just doubled and tears rose in my eyes.

This is beautiful, and so, so incredibly heartbreaking.

I think it was quite ingenious of you to have left so much open space at the top, giving am almost empty look, which is perfect for the lyrics of the song. The detail there is amazing and very beautiful.

Also, your likenesses are wonderful as always. I think your likeness of John is even better than of Sherlock, this time. I often find it hard to match Martin Freeman's hair color, but you nailed it.

What you have done with Sherlock is simply and utterly amazing. The see-though hand, and the blending of his clothes into the darkness was very clever. The touch of the blood on his face is very clever, and adds just the extra boost of surreal this painting needed.

Bravo, my dear! This is wonderful, as always.

I think this artwork is incredibly beautiful and wonderfully complex but in a very quiet, private way. That solitude perfectly echoes John's personality, and resonates well with the rich starry sky which also imparts the feeling that John's sorrow is vast.

I gave full stars for vision and impact because I feel so much by way of themes here. The song was an excellent choice. I have not heard it (yet) but the lyrics fit John to a tee. Without Sherlock, John does not know how to function in life/society. He is purposeless. The sky is not only beautifully drawn but implies a lack of form. John feels like he is not defined anymore without the anchor of Sherlock's zeal or the fact that Sherlock needed him as a crime fighting partner, witness and most importantly, his most beloved friend.

On the same page, the sky imparts not just emptiness but also vastness. Surely John's feelings are overwhelming. The symbiotic nature of that between Sherlock and Watson is most definitely hard to explain. He cares. He owes Sherlock so much. How can anyone else possibly understand how devastating Sherlock's "death" is to him?

I was surprised to see the red marks on Sherlock's face but what better way to show that Sherlock is haunting John? It was the last time John saw Sherlock. How horrible to think that no one believed in Sherlock. That was his last sight of him and his last connection. It makes the viewer ache for John.

Bravo. Bravo! Everything about this drawing is beautiful and I am in awe of such talent, and for it staying true to the BBC series canon. Thank you for such lovely work!

Gorgeous expressions there; absolutely gorgeous. I seriously love how you drew Sherlock's hand gently fading out to the ghost like look, rather than going straight from full colour to a harsh looking white outline, like I've seen some artists do; however that could just be regarded as artistic license. What I'm trying to say is the impact of this piece on me was just me sitting there gawping at my screen for a few moments, more or less ignoring what my father was asking me to do until I recovered; just such a beautiful, amazing piece. I can't even-- <3

Ha ha ha ha! Quella mano morta (in ogni senso) mi lascia tuttora perplessa. Sembra fatta col gessetto, non mi convince affatto. No no no. E comunque, concordo: la canzone è indecorosamente azzeccata per il buon dottore.

First: splendido.

UGH, MY FEELS.

Mea culpa, how banal.

Ha ha ha! Marvel anni '80!

NOOOO! Il Babbo Natale di Rise of the Guardians NOOOOO!

This is beautiful! I love that John is sort of so alone-looking in the picture, what with being in the bottom corner with the night sky. It's very dream-like, in a way, especially Sherlock. John and Sherlock look absolutely perfect, detailed, and realistic. But it's so sad- the ghostly hand kind of broke me...and then the lyrics? Oh my.
Great job. :)

Again - brilliant work. So full of emotions. I feel really bad for John. I know how bad is to loose somebody you love... When I am looking at this, I just wish they will meet again really, really soon.
Beautiful expressions, colouring, shadowing...The hand of Sherlock is brilliant. All this drawing is fantastic.

Well, we know they will surely meet again very soon but the period before Sherlock's "resurrection" must have been horrible for John. To lose a friend, a best friend, is one of the most unforgettable sorrows that a human being can suffer. I tried to put part of John's grief in this drawing, not sure I've been successful! Anyway, thank you very much for the lovely words, my dear. :huggles:
